General Information about the AP Literature Exam:

The Advanced Placement Literature Examination is made up of 60 multiple-choice questions and two essay prompts/ questions. Three hours are allotted for the actual examination which takes place in the month of May during the same year one takes the course of AP Literature.

Tips to Help Prepare For the Exam:

Throughout the Year:
*Take Notes during class and when reading novels, poems, or any other form of literature for school.

*Either practice taking the AP exam with your class or ask your teacher for a practice AP Literature Exam to take home and work on so that you have a general idea of what the test will be like. This will also help you feel more ready for the exam when the actual examination takes place.

*Practice writing timed writings until your hands are so sore you cannot write anymore!! Actually, practice writing timed writings until you get amazingly good at them, or at least, good, if anything. However, don't screw over your hands (i.e. working them too hard) as they are good for many things- writing being only one of them.

*Discuss novels, short stories, poems, or any other form of literature with your class, a group of people, or a friend or two so that you can get a better understanding of how to look at and/or analyze a piece of literature.

The Week Before the Exam:

*The night before the exam, as well as all the nights during the week before the exam (if possible), make sure you get to bed at a decent time, perhaps 9pm. This is so that during the morning or afternoon of your examination, you will feel refreshed enough to take it, without feeling too overwhelmed or tired (as getting little sleep can do those things to you).

*The day before the exam, do not think about nor study for the examination. Instead, find ways to relax your mind (if possible), perhaps by watching a movie, hanging out with friends, reading a good book (without taking any notes), or anything else that gets you feeling relaxed and content.

Overall:

*Do Not overstress about this test! As long as you follow these simple tips, and any others that have been given to you and are known to work, you will do fine!! :) Have fun taking AP Literature- if anything, it is a class that will get you to think outside of the box!
